Labor Day Biker Party 2006 Enon, LA September 1,2,3rd, 2006 Party with the Ragin' Cajuns ! I've been hearing about the labor day biker party in enon louisiana for some time now but something always seems to come up at the last minute to prevent me from going. Hurricane Katrina last year, bike broke down the year before... waahhh waahhh wahhh... well no more excuses, I finally made it down there. I've been missing something reeeaaaal good. It's a real down home kind of biker party, and a lot of the people that go there are have been doing so for a while. The atmosphere is great and everybody's just there to have a good time without any attitudes or hassle. Which is as it should be. I mean that's what a REAL biker party is all about isn't it? They've got a bunch of contests, including the friday night ladies thong contest, the saturday night wet t shirt contest and the sunday night bikini contest. Each of their contests start up rather early in the evenings, around 7-8pm or so. Aftwards they have a live band come up & play and just let the the people have themselves a good party & stay up as late as they like. I kind of liked they they had it setup. And of course I need to mention that they've got an open sided little barn kind of building there so bad weather is never really a problem at this rally. The afternoons on both saturday & sunday are filled with the field events, which are quite extensive. Lotsa of all the traditional biker games and always a good time. Saturday late afternoon they snuck in a burn out contest and a free for all pudding wrestling contest. Well it may have been a contest. It definately was mostly girls, a couple of guys and a little pool filled with jello pudding. And they did wrestle around in it, but it was more like a free for all than an actual contest. Well whatever it was, it sure looked them people was having fun. Let's not forget the Sunday morning services, and a biker wedding on Saturday afternoon down by the river. On a more somber note, last year their labor day party got smacked by hurricane Katrina so they had to cancel it. But they did manage to slip in a makeup party at halloween, and during the makeup party a well known local biker ''Bulldog'' had a heart attack or something and passed away at the party! And if that wasn't enough his wife passed away two days after his funeral. Their 14 year old daughter lost both her parents in a single week and had to move in with her aunt. Now the daughter is 15 and not old enough to be at this rally, but the aunt was. They started raising money for her on Saturday night and by the time it was finished over $6,000 had be raised. Now even though there was about 2,500 people or so at the rally only about 6-700 were actually at the stage while they were passing the hat around, and remember many of the people are still rebuilding their own lives after hurricane Katrina. I've NEVER before witnessed so many people giving from their heart towards a good cause and it was enough to bring a tear to the eye of even the coldest hearted. Especially when the girl's aunt got up on stage and tried several times to thank everyone, but couldn't quite manage it without breaking down in tears. They have plans to relocate the rally to newer, larger grounds next year. And talking of expanding their going to start having two rallies every season on memorial day & labor day weekends. Sounds interesting as it's located only about an hour or so from Gulfport, which ain't the rally it used to be. Not to mention the entry fee is very reasonable, I can't help but feel gouged at the blowout every summer. This rally on the other hand is definately something to put on my ''to do'' list for next summer. All in all it was a bloody good time, and one of the best REAL biker parties I've been to in a while. Ask around, I'd bet my last dollar that you couldn't find anybody who didn't have a good time & plan to come back again next year.
