Styx River Rally 2005 Spring Party near RobertsDale, AL May 6-8th, 2005 As some of you may know the Styx River rally was originaly scheduled about a month ago. Heavy rains completely flooded out the campgrounds and the road leading into it and the rally had to be cancelled. But not to worry, they've been flooded before. A month of hard work, hauling off a few tons of debris, some heavy lifting and chainsawing of tree trunks, a new road leading into the place and with a little (or actually a lot) of help from their friends they're ready for another party. And yes, the flood really did happen. About 30 RV's got trashed, and the entire campground ended up looking like a war zone. Tents, tires, tree trunks, branches, sand and debris washed up all over the place. The national guard came out to evacuate the entire length of the styx river, and there was a big story in the local papers about the biker party that got washed away. Complete with pictures. So much for the people that have been telling me there was no flood. Wonder where they got their info from? Cookie event gave me a few pictures he shot to put up on the site. Check them out, you could use the photographs as a advertisement for the top 10 reasons to buy ''act of god'' insurance. With all the work they've been doing on the campgrounds Todd & Lisa haven't had any time to actually TELL anybody about the new party dates. So this rally was kind of like it used to be in the old days, where you had to ''know somebody who knew somebody that had this buddy that knew about this little biker party going on''. All in all maybe a couple of hundred people showed up, most of them hard-core styx river fans that have been attending for years. Because the turn out was only a fraction of what it usually was, the atmosphere was a lot more relaxed than usual. We still had fun, and everybody there was a friendly as ever. Friday night was pretty quiet, on Saturday they had the regular biker games, a live band & a wet t-shirt contest when the sun went down. For those of you that DON'T know about the styx river rally biker rodeo games, I should mention that they're NOT the typical ''I seen this before'' kind of thing. They do have all the traditional weenie bite, balloon toss, slow ride etc... games, but true to the styx river tradition they have to add a twist. If you mess up your ride the first time around you ARE allowed to try again... as long as you do it nekkid! Hahahha, it sure makes the games more interesting. It now has an official name, it's called the ''buy back'', because you can buy back another chance for a piece of clothing. Cool idea huh? Every biker rally should do this! This was also the first styx river rally WITHOUT their infamous DJ ''Fast Eddy'', who has apparently moved on to bigger & better things. Well we wish him the best of luck, it sure wasn't the same without him. The new DJ wasn't bad... but honestly he's trying to fill some pretty big shoes. We missed our ''Fast Eddy''! Maybe we could coax him out of retirement for just one more little rally? While at the styx river rally you also need to check out '' Cookie's Magic School Bus ''. It ain't got a motor, and the tires look like they would explode if you tried to tow it anywhere. But it DOES have a bar, air conditioning, a TV set and a wall full of titty pictures. When at the rally you should pop in for a quick beer & to check out what's going on, you never know what you might see while in there. This rally did not have a lot of people but it did have is quite a bit of nudity. A little here, a little there and before you know it your camera's full and you have to bust out another roll or three of film. Definately NOT the kind of biker party you want to take you children to. Or even you 38 year old sister in law that's still a virgin. Then again if she's 38 and still a virgin it may be EXACTLY the kind of place you should take her! :) In any case leave the kids at home for this one. Pack up your tent, grab a couple of coolers of beer and head on down to the Styx River for their next rally. If your an old school biker you can pretty well count on this one to always be some good times. ---------------------- Campground Description : Flat, sandy terrain on the banks of the Styx River. Paved road leading into the campgrounds, partial pavement around the campgrounds. Subject to flooding in bad weather. Lots of shade trees. About 6-7 acres. Porta potty toilets, usually has a shower although it had been washed away for this rally in the flood. Cool off in the Styx River, skinny dipping allowed late at night but discouraged during the day because of the proximity of children tubing down the styx river.
