JUNEBUG BOOGIE 2004 JUNE RALLY
JUNEBUG BOOGIE june 2004 Cookeville, TN June 18-20th 2004 Another first time rally for me. The Junebug Boogie is one of those new rallies that I'd heard about but never been to, so I decided to go check it out. It's only their 3rd year, so I really wasn't expecting much. Man was I ever wrong. About a 1,200 or so of the right kind of people showed up at this rally, despite the fact that it looked like rain the entire weekend. Not bad at all for only their third year, I wonder how many people would have showed up if the weather had been clear? For once a new rally did everything right. Lots of contests to keep us entertained, a great camping & rally spot (with shade!), a biker rodeo, live bands that were pretty good... hell, they even had some gogo poles setup just in case you got the urge to put on a show. It was my kind of rally. You can tell the guy did his homework and checked out some other biker parties before trying to put on a show. I wish more people would do that before they decide to try and put on a biker rally. One thing that that really sets this rally apart from the others is that they've got a lot of contests for the ladies. A men's wet boxer short contest, best beer belly contest and best buns contest will keep your old lady from complaining that all the entertainement is geared up to please the males. Of course that doesn't mean that they didn't have the regular old contests featuring women, they've just added a little something for the ladies. They've also got something called the ''sweater popper'' contest. I admit they had me confused and wondering what the hell it was going to be about, but it turned out to be a nipple sizing contest with prizes for the largest & smallest nipples. Women's nipples of course, I'm glad that contest hasn't gone coed yet :) They didn't have a poker run, but they did have a biker rodeo. A barrel race, slow race and weenie bite. And a burnout contest (yes, they have a special custom built burnout pit!) and a loud pipes contest. With of course a clothing optional stipulation in all their events. You gotta love a good biker party. The grounds were really nice. Large rolling hills bordered by trees provided lot's of space to pitch your tent in the shade, and a big clear area in the center for the stage & vendors. A very good setup. I heard that the hills were pretty slippery last year, but this year they got a dozer in and grated, graded & gravelled everything so it wasn't a problem, even when it poured rain late saturday night. The drive their is also beautifull, it's just north of Cookeville, TN. Lots of rolling hills with curves and awesome scenery... the kind of road that just screams ''ride me hard''. Or maybe that's just because I'm from the deep south where anything over the height of an speed bump is considered a hill. In any case I definately approve of all the windy mountain roads, lot's of fun to ride on two wheels. Oooops, did I forget to mention the ''beaver barber''? This enterprising guy setup with a portable barber shop tent complete with a beautifull custom sign & offered free beaver maintenance to any and all women that got within a couple of hundred yards of his setup. For some reason he didn't get many takers, so he offered to PAY any girl that would sit for a ''free'' trim. And finally, after increasing his offer a few times (I think it went all the way up to $40) he finally got a taker! Hahahahha... I admire his party spirit, but I have a feeling that he wouldn't be too successfull running his own business. :) All in all it was a pretty damn good weekend. I don't usually rate begining rallies very high (because it usually takes them a while to figure out how to put on a good party) but I DO have to make an exception in this case. I went, I saw and I approved of everything there. It's definately well on it's way to becoming one of those great ''cut loose and party'' biker rallies in the very near future. In fact it already is. Be sure & put it on your ''to do'' list next summer! ---------------------- Adults Only (21 & over) No children allowed. Entry : $20 Camping on Site : Included B.Y.O.B.
